Reduce, Reuse…. Refill
I wrote this piece for Rrampt on Jacquie Rushlow, co-founder of The Keep Refillery, a zero-waste refill shop that's grown from a single unheated shed in Creemore to four locations across Ontario, including Toronto.
Rushlow's path started with a documentary shoot in Kenya that reframed how she thought about consumption and waste, and led her and her husband to open a refillery just weeks before the pandemic hit. The piece blends her personal story with the broader environmental case against single-use plastics — the numbers on Great Lakes pollution, Canada's plastics ban, and what it actually takes to shift consumer habits at a community level.
