I road-tripped to three small-town general stores for Wander North to see how an old-fashioned institution is being reimagined for a new era.
Nottawa General Store blends a café, art gallery, and event space inside a restored 1864 building; Kimberley General Store has stayed intentionally small while becoming the social anchor of Beaver Valley; and Rosseau General Store, in its 150th-plus year, is now run by a family determined to keep it exactly what it's always been — a place where locals and cottagers cross paths over ice cream and fresh bread.
