Dare to Dream: a symbol for diversity and acceptance of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
I wrote this piece for Rrampt on the unveiling of Dare to Dream, a public sculpture commissioned by the Town of Collingwood to celebrate its 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Created by Toronto artist William Hung, the piece combines a stainless steel rainbow arc, a cast-iron rhinoceros — a lesser-known symbol of queer resistance — and colourful balloons referencing the original Pride flag. I spoke with John Miller of the Rainbow Club of South Georgian Bay about what the sculpture means for the community and how it builds on the town's earlier rainbow crosswalk installation. It's a short piece of arts and culture reporting tied to local civic identity and inclusion.
